Proposal Details
This site is The Ottawa Hospital, Riverside Campus. It is located south of Smyth Road, east of Riverside Drive, west of the Via Rail Line and north of Sarah Billings Place. The larger parcel is developed with the “Riverside Hospital” and a medical building to the south and a large surface parking lot to the north. It is the surface parking lot lands that are proposed to be developed. The Riverside Hospital and medical building will remain.
The proposal has been submitted on behalf of Schlegel Villages Inc., a private corporation which proposes to develop a retirement home, a long-term care home, and amenities for both residents and the public as part of their “village” setting that they have developed in other parts of Ontario.
The proposed development would be built in phases. Phase 1 would result in the 8- storey long-term care facility with 256 beds and Phase 2 would result in the 15-storey retirement home with 270 suites, along with the private and public amenities. A total of 273 vehicular parking spaces are proposed for residents and visitors, which exceeds the minimum required by the City’s Zoning By-Law.
The vehicular parking on site for the hospital and medical building would be reduced from 744 spaces to 393 spaces. The proposed number exceeds the minimum number of 277 spaces that is required by the City’s Zoning By-Law.
