JOIN RIVERVIEW PARK IN A COMMUNITY SOCIAL ‘ENVIRO-WALK’ ON WEDNESDAY EVENINGS, MAY 2 through JUNE 27, 7-8PM, IN ALTA VISTA GREENSPACE – Meeting at 7pm at Knox/Cluny Greenspace Inlet

As part of our Spring community clean-up we are organizing an ‘Enviro-Walk’ to gather weekly with neighbours in our community to walk/socialize/clean up in the greenspace. While our city parks have active one-time Spring initiatives underway we are aiming to support a sense of accountability and mindfulness to clean up as we walk about our community on an ongoing basis! This is also an opportunity to get out weekly to enjoy our greenspace and meet up as a community for exercise and fresh air with bags in hand to clean up as we go along. Many global initiatives and trends, like the one below which originated in Sweden with runners cleaning up as they go (called ‘plogging’), are sprouting to support the initiative to take responsibility not just for our own property but the streets and greenspaces in our communities as well, on an ongoing basis.

You can join at any time or any week! Bring the kids, dogs, friends! The RPCA has agreed to sign off on volunteer hours for any high school students looking to top up their totals (please see Carol at the outset of the walk for details) so bring the teens!

We will meet at 7pm at the greenspace outlet of Knox / Cluny. Aim is to collect and remove garbage but also to maximize amount we can recycle or compost as well. Please bring garden gloves and any tools you have and others to share if possible. Garbage and recycling bags will be handed out at the outset. After moving through the greenspace for about 30 min, aim is to then disperse into smaller groups and head out to the streets near where you live.

Looking forward to seeing you on Wednesdays!
