The Riverview Park Community Association is seeking an operator for the Balena Park skating rink for the 2016-17 season.
The Balena rink is a wonderful outdoor community facility that sees about 2,000 visitors over a season that can last from late December to early March. The rink is open weekday evenings and weekend days, with one side for hockey and one for skating.
Volunteer duties include:
- Establish and maintain ice along with 2-3 other volunteer ice makers
- Coordinate 15-20 volunteers to supervise the rink and field house during open hours
The Balena Rink Coordinator, under contract to the City of Ottawa, is responsible for both supervision and maintenance. The City pays a generous stipend and, to facilitate recruitment, some remuneration for volunteers as well. The more volunteer help the coordinator can encourage, the lighter the work.
Strengths required:
- Hard working and dedicated, Love of winter and outdoor recreation
- No rink maintenance skills needed; the City provides a rink-making course
If you’re interested in taking part in a lively community rink, working with an established group of dedicated volunteers and meeting many neighbours over hours of fun at the local rink, please contact RPCA President Kris Nanda at krpp1415@gmail.com.
